Supreme Connections

Ongoing

In the early 2000s, I worked with Maryanne Amacher, culminating in my recordings being incorporated into her installation "Teo! A Sonic Sculpture" for the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, which won the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.

Amacher was a pioneer of sound installation and as an early fellow at MIT's Center for Advanced Visual Studies, she was at the forefront of media art. Since her passing, numerous organizations are bringing more attention to her work, with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts having recently acquired her archive.

As Amacher's work was difficult to document, I’ve been collaborating with a number of colleagues affiliated with the late artist in presenting interpretations of her work. With Supreme Connections (Amy Cimini, Bill Dietz, Kabir Carter, Keiko Prince, Nora Schultz, Sergei Tcherepnin, Stefan Tcherepnin, and others), we have re-presented her installation work at the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) as part of the Sonic Acts festival, as well as in Philadelphia with Bowerbird.

I’ve also worked with Daniel Neumann and members of Yarn/Wire, in realizing Adjacencies, an early piece for percussion and electronics through spacialized audio, performing the piece at various venues such as the Kitchen (New York), REDCAT (Los Angeles), and UCSD.

I've been privileged to be a part of this team, as it has been an honor to work with Amacher's peers from MIT's CAVS from the 1970s. Additionally, we've held planning meetings at historically important sites for media arts such as Bell Labs.

As the work is difficult to document, I've included stills, press, and other framing here:
